Oxygen takes a substantial role in producing ATP more effectively. Aerobic cells produce about 20x more ATP per sugar molecule than unaerobic cells.
Surface-area-to-volume ratio decreases in larger cells. This means that larger cells have relatively little area to capture materials in. Thatβs why they need more effective way to produce ATPs. (Thatβs why bacterias are small (?))
