šDo a second pass to take notes
I have noticed that when I read an article first without taking notes, and then do a second pass to take notes, I copy less and do Non-verbatim notes.
This is probably because Iām too lazy to actually re-read the text. I use headings and skimming to prompt myself to remember interesting concepts, but I do not read the full text, so I do not copy it but rather use my own words (because that becomes easier than re-reading).
