📝Architecture as product design/specification

source

Brooks1995

In “The Mythical Man-Month,” Fred Brooks equates architecture with product design/specification. He argues that the main goal for architecture is to have conceptual integrity and be easy for users. (The book talks about OS and PLs though.)

The “architecture” in IT was first introduced for CPUs. CPU architecture is an instruction set—it describes what interface to the CPU is and how it behaves, but not how it is implemented.

(This is a somewhat outdated view on architecture and has since changed.)
