📝Mechanism vs. information

Rich Hickey argues for separation of information and mechanism parts of applications.

Mechanisms are devices or contrivances invented for a specific use or purpose. e.g. hashtables, databases. System programming kind of fit here. These are usually internal to the system.

Information is concerned with the outside world. It is thus inherently messy and you’re likely to get it wrong.

These parts thus have different needs and different language features. Mechanisms are a good fit for static typing, etc. Information parts need to be dynamic, flexible and observable.
