📝It’s easier to have instrumental motivation if you have an important goal outside of work

If you have something that motivates you outside of work (which you can’t make money from), it is much easier to see work with instrumental motivation.

e.g., I used to see the my job as instrumental while building structural editor prototypes as a side project (I actually treated work as a side project, but essential to keep me afloat).

You still need to take care to not burnout on the side project.
